Building a Coaching Culture: Navigating Conflict with Intention

Conflict is an inevitable part of working with others, but it doesn’t have to be something we avoid, fear, or simply endure. When handled well, conflict can lead to better ideas, stronger relationships, more honest communication, and better outcomes. In this interactive session, participants will explore their own tendencies when conflict arises and consider how those patterns can influence the way they respond to challenging situations. They’ll examine what it means to approach conflict with greater intention and flexibility, rather than relying on an automatic response. The session will also focus on the importance of preparing for difficult conversations, understanding what matters to both sides, and creating the conditions for productive dialogue. Through reflection, discussion, and practical application, participants will have an opportunity to consider how they can approach workplace disagreements more effectively – balancing their own needs and perspectives with those of others. Whether you tend to avoid conflict, address it directly, or find yourself somewhere in between, this session will provide practical insights to help you navigate conflict with greater confidence, curiosity, and choice.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Describe five common approaches to conflict and recognize when each may be useful.
Recognize their natural tendencies when responding to conflict and identify their default conflict style.
Apply practical strategies for preparing for and navigating difficult conversations in a way that promotes productive dialogue and preserves relationships.

Amy Ross

Amy Ross is a leadership coach and facilitator who helps leaders and teams become more effective in how they lead, communicate, and collaborate. With more than 20 years of experience developing leaders and teams across healthcare, financial services, technology, and the nonprofit sector, Amy brings a practical, human-centered approach to leadership development.

Through her coaching, Amy works especially with managers and mid-level leaders who are ready to move beyond managing day-to-day work and step more fully into leadership—building their influence, navigating change, developing their people, and leading with greater confidence and intention. She also works with teams to strengthen communication and collaboration, navigate conflict and challenging dynamics, and build the trust and effectiveness needed to work well together.

Amy holds the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coaching Federation and is trained in a variety of assessment tools, including EQ-i 2.0, Predictive Index, CliftonStrengths, The Hodges12, and Korn Ferry 360.
